Dick Bumpas

Dick Bumpas

TCU

Nomination(s): 2009

Dick Bumpas is no stranger to the Broyles Award, nor is he a stranger to the state of Arkansas. And he's certainly no stranger when it comes to fielding nationally-elite defenses. Bumpas, a former Razorbacks defensive tackle, is up for the Broyles Award for the second year in a row. Bumpas' defense, again ranked among the nation's best, has  helped the Horned Frogs to an undefeated regular season and has them competing for a berth in the BCS for the first time in school history.

TCU ended its regular season ranked second nationally in total defense, giving up 233.25 yards per game. The Horned Frogs again feature one of the nation's top defenders in defensive end Jerry Hughes, who finished the year with 11.5 sacks. Bumpas brings a wealth of experience to the defensive game, having previously coached at Arkansas, Utah State, Notre Dame, Navy and others.
